Aurora Sustainable Lands has been selected as a funding recipient through the Sustainable Forestry Initiative’s (SFI) Climate Smart Forestry program, supporting the implementation of climate-informed forest management practices across U.S. forestlands.

The award is part of SFI’s first round of funding, which will support five organizations advancing climate-smart forestry practices across nearly 5,000 acres in multiple states.

Advancing Carbon Stewardship

Through the SFI Climate Smart Forestry Initiative, funding is directed toward practices that increase carbon storage, strengthen forest resilience, and maintain productive, working forests.

Aurora will apply these principles across its portfolio, integrating carbon-focused management with active stewardship to support long-term forest health and climate outcomes.

“This award reflects the growing role of large-scale forest managers in delivering durable climate solutions,” said Katie Krejsa of Aurora Sustainable Lands. “We’re excited to advance climate-smart forestry practices that enhance carbon storage while supporting resilient, productive forests.”

Scaling Climate-Smart Forestry

The funding is part of SFI’s Advancing Carbon Stewardship Practices for Large Landowners in the United States initiative, which targets projects in priority regions including the Lake States and Pacific Northwest.

Aurora joins a group of partners—including conservation organizations, private landowners, and Tribal Nations—working to demonstrate scalable approaches to climate-smart forestry across diverse landscapes.
